- Sherline End Mill Holder Instructions
- Ensures stability with single set screw
- Supports longer and double-ended end mills
- Enhances milling versatility with quick changes
- Maintains CNC tool length consistency
- Minimizes runout with tight tolerance threading
The Sherline End Mill Holder Instructions provide guidance on using an end mill holder that securely attaches to the threaded end of a mill spindle. This holder ensures that end mills are firmly held in place with a single set screw, preventing any spinning during heavy cuts, which can occur with collets. The design offers more support for the end mill compared to a collet, enhancing stability and performance.
The holder is compatible with longer or double-ended end mills and is available for various sizes of cutting tools. It is particularly suitable for special purpose cutters with 3/8-inch diameter shanks, such as those used for cutting key slots, dovetails, and corner radii. This versatility increases the functionality of a milling machine, allowing for quick changes between cutters by simply unscrewing one holder and threading on another.
In CNC operations, the use of multiple pre-mounted holders with their own end mills ensures that tool length remains consistent, eliminating the need to update tool diameter and length values in the CNC program’s tools table.
Note: The thread pitch diameter on both the end mill holder and the headstock spindle is held to a tight tolerance to minimize runout. It is recommended to apply a drop of light oil on the threads before threading the holder onto the spindle, as some holders may fit tightly initially.
