The Sherline Single-Axis Slide w/ Programmable CNC Controller 8″ (“”) is a sophisticated tool designed for precision control in machining applications. This device integrates a single-axis controller with a built-in computer chip, eliminating the need for separate computers or drivers. Users can operate the stepper motor directly via a keypad or input simple program commands for sequenced operations without requiring knowledge of G-code. The system allows for the entry of parameters such as direction, travel distance, feed rate, and program pauses, supporting up to 40 programmed steps across two user-settable programs. Controllers can be interconnected to signal each other for sequential actions and can communicate with other CNC systems using “sense” and “acknowledge” signals to ensure synchronized operation during CNC sequences.
The stepper motor is equipped with dual ball bearings and a preload nut to eliminate endplay, and it connects to the leadscrew via a dampened coupling. A dual-shaft stepper motor permits manual operation using the included handwheel, providing an alternative to computer-controlled movement. The controller employs micro-stepping for precise and smooth travel.
Mounting options are versatile, with provisions for both bottom and top mounting. The base features four holes for bottom mounting, while top mounting is facilitated by four angle clamps that slide into a groove around the base’s perimeter. This ensures secure attachment to the mounting surface.
The slide is capable of supporting a weight capacity of approximately 10 lbs, depending on the weight’s location and the table’s length. For optimal performance and longevity, it is recommended to keep the dovetail and screw lubricated with light oil, as heavy use may cause wear on the anodized coating over time.
Note: Do not use WD-40 as a lubricant on these slides, as it will remove the anodized coating from the parts.
